Can You Be Charged With a Crime Based Only on Someone's Accusation?

Many people are shocked to learn they can be arrested even when there is little or no physical evidence. In some criminal cases throughout Rockland County and Orange County, prosecutors move forward based largely on witness statements or accusations alone.

However, an accusation is not the same thing as proof.

Witnesses can:

Misremember events

Exaggerate situations

Have personal motives

Provide inconsistent statements

These cases often require careful examination of:

Text messages

Surveillance footage

Prior statements

Timeline inconsistencies

Credibility issues

Being accused of a crime does not automatically mean the allegations can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
