What Happens if You Are Accused of Violating Probation?
By Yvonne Garbett, Esq.

Probation allows many individuals to avoid incarceration, but probation violations can lead to serious consequences.
A violation allegation may arise from:
Missing appointments
Failing drug tests
New arrests
Failure to complete required programs
Traveling without permission
Many people assume a violation automatically means jail. That is not always true.
In some situations, probation violations may be explained by misunderstandings, emergencies, or disputes about compliance.
Courts often consider:
Prior compliance history
Severity of the alleged violation
Whether new criminal charges are involved
Efforts to correct the issue
If you believe you violated probation conditions, addressing the issue quickly is extremely important.
