Understanding Temporary Orders of Protection
By Yvonne Garbett, Esq.

Temporary orders of protection are commonly issued shortly after arrests involving domestic disputes or harassment allegations.
These orders may:
Restrict contact
Require someone to leave a residence
Limit communication
Affect parenting arrangements
Violating an order of protection can lead to additional criminal charges, even if the protected person initiated contact.
Many people accidentally violate court orders simply because they do not fully understand the restrictions involved.
Reading and understanding the exact terms of any court order is extremely important.
