What Is Menacing in New York?
By Yvonne Garbett, Esq.

Menacing charges generally involve allegations that someone intentionally placed another person in fear of physical injury.
These allegations often arise from:
Domestic disputes
Road rage incidents
Arguments between neighbors
Bar altercations
Sometimes no physical contact is alleged at all.
Prosecutors may rely on:
Witness testimony
Video footage
Threat allegations
Body camera footage
Because fear and perception are highly subjective, these cases often depend heavily on credibility and context.
